About MakeCV

MakeCV is a free, browser-based resume builder. You type your details once, pick one of 14 templates, and download a PDF. There is no account, no trial, no paywall at the download step and no watermark.

How it works

  1. Your details: name, contact information, summary, work experience (up to 5 roles), education (up to 3), skills, languages, projects and certifications.
  2. Template: choose from 14 templates; you can switch at any time without retyping.
  3. Preview and download: a live A4 preview, then either Download PDF (an exact visual copy, image-based) or ATS PDF (a text-based PDF made through your browser's print dialog, for online applications; see the ATS guide).

What happens to your data

Your resume is built entirely in your browser. The text you type and any photo you add are not sent to our servers and are not stored anywhere by MakeCV. The flip side is that nothing is saved: if you refresh or close the page, the form is cleared. We recommend keeping your text in a notes file as well.

The website itself uses Google Analytics to count visits and ads from Adsterra to pay for the service; both are described in the privacy policy, and the cookie banner on the builder lets you accept or decline.

How MakeCV is free

MakeCV shows ads on the website. Ads never appear inside the PDF you download, and there is no paid version with "premium" templates: all 14 templates and both PDF types are available to everyone.

The guides

Alongside the builder we publish practical, no-fluff guides to the questions people ask while writing a resume: how to write one, how to format it, resume vs CV, UK CV conventions, summary examples, skills and resumes with no experience. Examples in the guides are fictional and labelled as such; we don't publish made-up statistics.
